What to Expect
Giving Patients Peace of Mind Before their Dental Visit
Many people get nervous about visiting the dentist because they aren’t sure what to expect. Rest assured that as our patient, we do our best to make you feel comfortable even before you step through our doors. Whether you are interested in a complete smile makeover or regaining and maintaining a state of dental health, your health and concerns are our first priority.
Before Your Dental Appointment
After scheduling your appointment with our office, you will receive a welcome packet in the mail. This includes a note thanking you for trusting us with your dental care needs along with some more general information about our practice and our policies.
In this packet, you’ll also receive your new patient forms. Please fill these out prior to your appointment. You may send them back to us in the provided envelope or simply bring them with you to your appointment. Copies of these forms are also available for download here on our website.
At Your Dental Appointment
When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly office staff. They will check you in, take your completed patient forms, and make copies of your driver’s license and dental insurance card, if you have one.
One of our skilled hygienists will walk you back when it’s your turn to be seen. She will walk you through our office, giving you a mini tour of our facilities, before taking you to the hygiene room.
Your initial visit typically includes a comprehensive exam, oral cancer screening, and fluoride treatment. We will also take a full set of x-rays and note any restorative dentistry that may be necessary.
The Southern Shores Dental team will consult with you and your hygienist to evaluate your specific needs, goals, and concerns. This ensures that you receive the most comprehensive care from the very start.
Once your consultation and fluoride treatment are complete, the hygienist will walk you back to the front of our office. There, you will schedule your next appointment and complete your payment.
If you require more extensive dental work, you will either schedule a time to go over your treatment plan or be guided to the consultation room before you leave. During this consultation, one of our team members will go over your treatment options. You will also discuss the different payment options for treatment so that you can decide what is the best plan for your oral health and your budget.
